Worker at Chas Roberts
Why do I want to form a Union?
The company does not provide us with water on the job site!
I lift the machines that go in the ceiling of a house. I have injured myself on many occasions. The company does not send 2 people to lift the machines.
On one occasion, I injured my back and the supervisor told me to lay on the floor and to rest, but did not send me to see a doctor. Now even though I am embarrassed, I ask for help from the men that do not work for Chas to raise the air handler up, such as the plumbers, if they are around.
The company does not provide us with safety equipment, like gloves. When I got hired, the company told us that we need to use a harness to avoid falls. However, we never got one. When I ask my supervisor for one, his reply was that they are almost arriving.
The company pushes us to do quality work in very little time. I have been working at Chas Roberts for 4 years and I am just barely making $13.50.

“What pushed me to make the decision to organize was how badly they are paying us per house…. [T]hey force people to fill out a timecard where it says that one has worked 8 hours, when one has been working 10 or 12 hours daily, and if one doesn’t do it, they don’t issue your check."
